Radiators and Cooling System - (02) 9560 5240

Most cars on our roads today are cooled by water to which anti-freeze (ethylene glycol) is added. This coolant mixture keeps the engine from overheating by drawing the heat out of the engine as it circulates through the engine and back through the radiator where the heat dissipates into the air. A fan also helps with the cooling process. Vehicles with automatic transmissions also use the cooling system to keep the transmission fluid at the best temperature.

While the concept of cooling an engine by circulating liquid coolant through it sounds simple, there are many ways a cooling system can become less efficient. Since efficiency is key to saving money, it just makes sense to bring your vehicle to Leichhardt Automotive for an annual cooling system inspection and check up. Our technician will look at all of the system components to be sure they are working properly and that the anti-freeze is still doing its job. Keeping your vehicle's engine cooling system functioning effectively can help extend the life of your car - a big plus these days.

Coolant System Flush and Why it's important

Coolant system failure is a leading cause of mechanical breakdown. It is also one of the most neglected systems on the vehicle, despite being one of the most simple to maintain. Rust, scale, sludge and air reduce its effectiveness and can cause premature failure of components. When properly maintained, coolant prevents freezing and boiling in your engine and improves heat transfers. It also lubricates the water pump and prolongs the life of other system components. A regular flush and fill maintains the proper pH level while preventing a harmful build-up of scale, corrosion and debris.

What's included

  • Standard Flush and Fill
  • Pressure test system for leaks, including radiator cap
  • Removal (flush) of old engine coolant
  • Installation (fill) of new radiator coolant
  • Inspection of fan belt and other system components

Your thermostat

The thermostat regulates engine temperature. A faulty thermostat can result in low heat or overheating, poor fuel economy, a knock or ping sound when accelerating, and low temperature readings. It can even cause a vehicle to fail an emissions test.

Did you also know?

Engine coolant not only cools your vehicle by transferring heat from the engine to the radiator - it also warms the vehicle by transferring heat to the passenger compartment. In addition, engine coolant lubricates the water pump and protects the cooling system from corrosion.
